Snack
Cheese toasties
Version from episode 08, 04
Ingredients
- toast bread
- butter
- sliced yellow cheese and ham
- hot or mild ketchup, to serve
Tips
Switch the sandwich maker on first so it heats up while you prepare the bread. Butter taken out of the fridge earlier won't tear the bread. Lift the lid slowly and keep your hand to the side: hot steam comes out from under it.
Method
- Get the toast bread, butter, sliced cheese and ham ready.
- Switch the sandwich maker on to heat up. This is important.
- Spread a thin layer of butter on the slices.
- Put the cheese and ham on one slice, cover with another and press gently.
- Put the sandwiches in the hot sandwich maker and close the lid.
- When you smell melted cheese, open the sandwich maker and take the toasties out with a wooden or silicone spatula. Metal can scratch the non-stick coating.
- Serve with hot or mild ketchup.
Version from episode 02
Ingredients
- 4 slices of toast bread
- butter
- sliced yellow cheese
- hot or mild ketchup, to serve
Tips
Butter spreads more easily if you take it out of the fridge 15 minutes earlier. Pre-sliced cheese saves you the cutting. Open the sandwich maker slowly: the steam under the lid is very hot.
Method
- Get four slices of toast bread ready.
- Butter the slices.
- Add the sliced cheese and close the sandwiches.
- Preheat the sandwich maker. This is important.
- Put the sandwiches in the sandwich maker and close the lid.
- Wait until the cheese melts. You will know by the smell.
- Open the sandwich maker and lift the sandwiches out with a wooden or silicone spatula (not a metal fork, which can damage the non-stick coating).
- Top with hot or mild ketchup. It tastes best with ketchup from Włocławek.
